Food Allergy Test (IgE 27)

Are you living with a food allergy?
IgE is a protein that is normally found in very small amounts in the blood, and functions as part of the body's immune system. When IgE antibodies recognise an allergen, it can cause the release of histamine and other chemicals that result in an allergic reaction. Symptoms of a food allergy are varied and can include itching, burning and swelling around the mouth, swelling of face or eyes, runny nose, skin rash, hives, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, breathing difficulties, vomiting and nausea.

The IgE antibody test is used to screen for an allergy to a specific allergen by measuring the amount of that suspected IgE antibody in the blood. The specific IgE tests can be for one particular allergen or a group of them and it can be very specific.
