The nasopharyngeal nose/ throat swab test is done via Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) which is the current gold standard method for detecting the virus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19. This is the test currently used by the NHS.
The test kit can be sent directly to your home or office and you will not need to have contact with anyone else while you perform the test.

*Please note that COVID-19 is a notifiable disease and a positive test result will be notified to Public Health England.
PCR tests are used to detect the presence of viral RNA, rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies. By detecting viral RNA, which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present, the tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on.
Your throat swab test kit and instructions are posted directly to you, and there is no need to visit a collection centre.
